the WitchesAnother example of such inspiration is in his book ‘The Witches’ published in 1983 in which the main character is a Norwegian boy. This boy was inspiration of someone he met when he was in Norway. As well as this, during his time at Llandaff, Dahl played a prank on a local sweet shop owner who was often rude to them. She was described as witch-like.

MatildaAs well as attending Llandaff, Dahl attended St. Peter's School. He had a very cruel Latin teacher called Captain Hardcastle. She did not like him and often caused him a lot of trouble. Ms Trunchbull of 'Matilda' is based off of Captain Hardcastle, a spiteful woman who dislikes children.
